Introduction to Department

• The Department of Civil Engineering at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) founded in 1943, the Department now has more than 8,000 graduates serving in domestic and foreign companies, research institutes and academic organizations. Master's and Doctoral degrees were established in 1959 and 1971 respectively. 
• International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) has cooperated with the Department of Civil Engineering of NCKU to establish 'International Master Program of Civil Engineering and Management' since 2007. There are 64 TaiwanICDF scholarship recipients from 2007, the number includes 55 graduates and 7 current students.
• There are more than 250 international students who are from 32 countries enrolled our Department since fall semester 2007.

Program Overview

As one of the key educational institutes in cultivating finest civil engineers in Taiwan, the Department of Civil Engineering at National Cheng Kung University now provides a unique International Master Program of Civil Engineering and Management (ICEM) for graduate students pursuing a degree of Master of Science. With a full spectrum of courses on theoretical backgrounds and technological applications, we provide a complete overview in a broad area of civil engineering, including Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Structures & Material, Engineering Management, and Engineering Informatics.

• Assisting friendly nations in cultivating professionals in the fields of Civil Engineering and expanding cooperation to strengthen relationships between Taiwan and its allies.
• Civil engineering establishes the fundamental elements in modern society and has a wide range of disciplines. With the advancement of technology, information technology has become instrumental in nearly all sectors of society. In view of the extensive applications of information technology, the Department of Civil Engineering at NCKU established the Engineering Informatics division in 2023 to serve as a platform for supporting and integrating information technology initiatives across the department and fostering collaborations with the industry. The aim is to bring out competitiveness in our students, advance more solid academic research, and facilitate extensive industry-academia collaborations.

  The direction of the Engineering Informatics division is as follows:

  ♦ Teaching: To provide essential courses in information technology, such as programming languages, database design, and optimization, as well as advanced courses in applying information technology to various fields of civil engineering.

  ♦ Research: To utilize the advanced information technology in developing innovative applications to expand and enhance the scope and value of civil engineering.

  ♦ Service: To develop advanced methodologies and software systems to translate the department's research results into industrial applications.
